Biomass Energy Study

This project looked into using biomass (energy from organic matter) to generate electricity.

The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, the Dakwakada Development Corporation, Yukon Energy, Cold Climate Innovation of the Yukon Research Centre, and the Village of Haines Junction investigated the potential of using fire or insect killed trees and sawmill waste to fuel a small plant (.5 to 2 megawatts) in the community.

Such a plant would provide some much-needed renewable electricity for the territory, heat local buildings and create economic opportunities for local enterprises.

Preliminary research showed this could be a viable project if the group can identify an economically feasible outlet for the heat output.
