Steve Cardiff Tiny House

Cold Climate Innovation (CCI) teamed with several community partners to help build a tiny house for Blood Ties Four Directions clients needing supportive living.

The house, which is named in honour of the late member of the legislative assembly, Steve Cardiff, provides a safe and secure transitional place for one client at a time.

CCI contributed $10,000 towards designing the house and donated vacuum insulated panels (VIPs) for the walls and roof. VIPs use a vacuum to reduce thermal transfer and provide an R-rating of 27. These insulating panels are manufactured by Panasonic and are being tested in a variety of Yukon buildings.

The house is built on a trailer so it can be moved, and because it is only 204 square feet it costs little to maintain and operate, allowing clients to live simply and independently.
