Seniors Greenhouse Energy Efficiency Upgrade

This project increased the thermal efficiency of the seniors’ residence greenhouse at Yukon College.

Project Overview

During the shoulder seasons (spring and fall), the greenhouse is heated by propane. Our goal was to reduce energy consumption by minimizing heat loss from the structure.

After researching northern greenhouse technologies and best building practices, we chose to install an air foil bubble wrap on the north wall and the north-facing roof.
The project gave the seniors who use the greenhouse information about retrofitting existing structures with energy efficient technologies to reduce operational costs.
