Remote Destination Offline Mobile Apps

Destination apps for mobile devices are becoming an increasingly important part of tourism marketing and customer experience. A challenge for tourism operators in the Yukon is that many remote sites are out of reach of 4G cellular networks that the majority of existing app solutions depend upon.

Project Overview

Technology Innovation supported the Carcross Tagish Mangement Corp in the development of a framework for of market driven, interactive mobile applications that promote remote destinations such as mountain biking, hiking, skiing areas as well as sites of great historical and cultural value. The apps built around this framework are network agnostic and allow the user to access the full location based functionality even when using the app offline.

The community of Carcross has a world class mountain biking area at Montana Mountain as well as 10 very scenic hiking trails. The framework developed through this project was initally used to develope two apps: Montana Mountain Biking and Carcross Hikes with the goal of attracting more visitor to the community. These apps are available for download on both the Apple and Android app stores.
