An applied physics research team at the University of British Columbia (UBC) has developed a thin-profile, high-performance insulation system. This technology has a number of potential applications, the most important of which is in the greenhouse food production industry. Food supply challenges in northern Canadian communities may be alleviated by building cost-effective and energy-efficient greenhouses in the communities where the food is needed. The UBC technology has the potential to make greenhouses more practical in northern communities.
A preliminary experiment was carried out at Yukon College using this new thermal panel technology. The experiment is to verified the insulation value of the UBC thermal cell array material using a non-active prototype.
