Carcross renewable energy installation and monitoring

This workshop supports the Carcross Tagish First Nation (CTFN) to build local commercial capacity for the renewable energy industry in Carcross. The career path in the industry is well-suited to individuals who may have not pursued advanced education or who may have left school at a young age, and CTFN is interested in expanding the commercial potential of renewable energy systems and local professional capacity.

Project Overview

An important part of the program is hands-on training and experience, so as to equip the graduates with the experience and skills that are necessary to work as an installer in the industry. In partnership with Yukon College, students installed a variety of renewable energy systems in locations throughout the community. These systems are designed as a public demonstration of clean energy systems. They will increase awareness about renewable energy systems and will serve to provide a dataset for further installation of clean energy systems in the territory. The systems which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the community, and will also provide a sense of empowerment for the students that successfully graduate from the program.

Each install will be used to gather location specific energy production data to be utilised in planning future commercial scale energy production initiatives.
Locally available skills are necessary for future commercial scale renewable energy projects. CTFN aims to use the skills arising from this training course in future commercial scale renewable energy projects.
